“Twice yearly visits will significantly decrease the chances of tooth decay and other preventable dental ailments occurring.”
How often should I visit?
Since dental health affects your whole body and overall wellbeing, it’s only fair to give it the attention it deserves. At Kilmore Dental & Specialist Centre, we advise our patients to visit the practice at least twice yearly for active maintenance.
Active maintenance refers to a regular visit to the dentist to prevent serious problems developing. This is important as it allows us to identify and treat minor problems before they develop into bigger, more expensive problems. We must also stress the importance of maintaining a robust at-home oral hygiene program in conjunction with routine visits to our clinic; we believe the two go hand-in-hand.
It doesn’t take very long for plaque or tartar to build up, but through twice-yearly visits to our practice, we can significantly decrease the occurrence of tooth decay and other preventable dental ailments. The early detection of other symptomless dental problems such as gum disease is also only possible by attending regular active maintenance appointments.
Along with your check-up, we provide each patient with a thorough clean. We scale back plaque build up, helping to prevent gingivitis and periodontal disease from forming. Although regular brushing and flossing at home will provide you with a good level of preventive dental care, you cannot remove the hardened tartar build up that a scheduled professional clean can.
During your visit our hygienist will perform a full clean and examine your teeth for any problem areas which may be present. Along with your dentist, they will give you advice on how to care for your teeth properly and record any areas which may need to be closely monitored in the future.
